# Is there a minimum age for hiring a rental car?

In most countries, a minimum age and minimum period of having a driver's license are required. These conditions vary depending on the rental company, the country chosen and the category of vehicle rented. 

To make sure you get a car that matches the age of the main driver, we advise you to indicate this when searching for a vehicle:

This information, as well as the amount of the young driver surcharge, if any, is specified at the “i” button next to the chosen model. See example below:

The underage driver surcharge is generally payable on the spot, as are any additional extras.
