Pets are generally accepted on board airplanes, unless refused for valid reasons (quotas already reached on the plane, legislation concerning dangerous animals, regulations of the destination country... etc).
They can travel either in the cabin (if they weigh less than 5 or 8 kg, depending on the airline), or in the hold in a special, pressurised and ventilated compartment.
Formalities
- To be admitted on board, your pet must be up-to-date with its mandatory vaccinations.
- For travel within the European Union, all dogs and cats must be identified with a microchip. They must also carry a European passport. Issued and filled in by an authorised veterinarian, this passport identifies your pet and certifies that it has been vaccinated. We also recommend that you check with the authorities in your destination country, as certain additional health conditions may apply (e.g. for travel to Ireland, Sweden, the UK or Malta).
- For travel outside the European Union, find out about the regulations that apply in your destination country, as well as in countries where you have stopovers during connecting flights (vaccinations, quarantine, etc.).
